The Safest PWC Ever? - Sea Doo GTX iS 255
The Sea Doo GTX is a personal watercraft (PWC) made by Bombardier Recreational Products from Canada. Although first produced in 1994, the latest iS models are a different beast altogether. The three seater Sea Doo GTX Limited iS 255 was designed to be the safest and most stable PWC ever produced.
On the safety front, It's the first Sea Doo GTX PWC to incorporate a proper braking system, whereas other PWC simply coast to a stop when the throttle is released. The new Sea Doo GTX has a feature called iControl, which earned them a safety award from the U.S. Coast Guard Office. This first on water brake(iBR) works by using reverse propulsion to slow the PWC quickly and smoothly, to stop the Sea Doo GTX in about half the distance a conventional craft would need when braking from top speed.
When it comes to stability, Sea Doo GTX iS 255 is also the first PWC to feature a full suspension system. The upper deck to which the seating is attached, is suspended separately from the hull and lower deck, giving around 6" of travel between, to produce a considerably smoother ride. The upper deck has a gas shock absorber and spring system in the front under the handlebars and a swing arm mechanism at the rear. Thus enabling the rider and any passengers to float on the suspension system, all the time being supported front and rear.
Under the hood, the Sea Doo GTX has got a 1494cc 255-hp supercharged Rotax 4-TEC engine with cruise control and a top speed of around 70 mph in calm conditions. Other innovations include an Off Throttle Assisted Steering System (O.T.A.S.) which makes the Sea Doo GTX much easier to maneuver at low speeds and combined with the iBR makes coming alongside and parking the craft a whole lot simpler.
The Sea Doo GTX 255 also has a fold down Reboarding Step, making for easier and more comfortable reboarding in deep water. A Tilt Steering system adjusts the steering and information center angle for maximum ease and comfort. The Digital Information Center has a 26 function center with easy to read gauges for info at a glance. An easily opened hinged Touring Seat has convenient stay open support struts which provides easy access to the engine compartment while still remaining attached to the watercraft.
The Sea Doo GTX iS 255 really is the new benchmark for PWC's. It combines luxury and performance with unrivalled safety, maneuverability and stability to provide the most comfortable high octane ride ever witnessed from a PWC.
